Got questions?

Everything you need to know about UK ETAs, our service, processing times, and refunds — answered honestly.

Eligibility

Yes, if you're a citizen of a visa-exempt country (like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or most European countries) and you're travelling to the UK for tourism, business, transit, or a short visit (up to 6 months), you need a UK ETA.

You do not need an ETA if you have a UK visa, are a British/Irish citizen, or are travelling on a different valid UK immigration permission.

You can check the full list of eligible countries at gov.uk/eta.

Yes. Every traveler — including infants and children of any age — needs their own UK ETA linked to their own passport.

When you apply through Visa Commute, you can add multiple travelers in a single checkout.

Yes. A UK ETA is valid for 2 years (or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner) and allows unlimited entries, with each visit lasting up to 6 months.

You should still apply, but be honest about your history. The UK Home Office assesses each case individually. A previous offence or refusal does not automatically disqualify you.

Providing false information is a criminal offence and can result in being banned from entering the UK.

Application

To complete an application, you'll need:

  • A valid passport from an eligible country
  • Your full name (matching your passport)
  • Your date of birth
  • Your nationality, passport number, and expiry date
  • An email address
  • A credit or debit card for payment

The application form itself takes about 5 minutes per traveler.

For groups, you can complete the entire family in a single checkout — typically 10-15 minutes for 4-5 travelers.

Yes. You can check the "I'll add passport details later" box during the application to skip those fields. After you complete the order, we'll email you to collect the passport details before submitting to the UK Home Office.

Email us immediately at care@visacommute.com with your order number. As long as we haven't yet submitted your application to the UK Home Office, we can correct mistakes for you.

The UK ETA application requires a digital photo of your face that meets specific requirements. After you complete checkout, we'll send instructions on how to take and submit a compliant photo.

Pricing & payment

The total per traveler is ~$99:

  • £20 (~$27) — UK Government ETA fee
  • $72 — Visa Commute service fee

Optional: +$25 per traveler for Priority processing.

You can apply directly at gov.uk/eta for £20 alone.

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay. All transactions are 256-bit SSL encrypted.

Our $72 service fee covers:

  • A real human reviewing your application for errors
  • 24/7 email and chat support
  • A full refund if your ETA is denied
  • Group application handling

If you'd rather handle it yourself, apply directly at gov.uk/eta.

No. The full price is shown upfront before checkout. No hidden charges, no surprise add-ons.

Processing & delivery

The total time depends on two stages:

  1. Our submission: Standard = within 12 hours; Priority = within 2 hours
  2. UK Home Office decision: Usually within 3 working days, sometimes faster

We cannot guarantee a specific approval time because the UK Home Office controls when decisions are made.

Priority processing speeds up our review and submission to within 2 hours of your order (versus 12 hours for Standard).

Important: Priority does not speed up the UK Home Office's decision. The Home Office processes all applications on its own timeline regardless of who submits.

You'll receive emails at three points:

  1. Order confirmation (immediately after payment)
  2. Submission confirmation (when we submit to the UK Home Office)
  3. Decision notification (when we hear back from the Home Office)

We'll do everything we can to submit your application as fast as possible (Priority processing gets it submitted within 2 hours).

However, the UK Home Office's processing time is outside our control. We cannot guarantee approval before your flight.

If you're concerned, contact us at care@visacommute.com.

After approval

No. The UK ETA is digitally linked to your passport. The airline and Border Force look up your ETA electronically using your passport number.

If your ETA is denied, we'll refund our $72 service fee in full within 5-10 business days.

The £20 UK government fee is non-refundable by the UK Home Office regardless of where you applied.

Your ETA is linked to your specific passport. If you renew your passport, your ETA is no longer valid and you'll need to apply for a new one.

Yes. The UK ETA is not tied to specific travel dates — it's a 2-year, multi-entry authorisation that lets you visit the UK whenever you want during its validity (with each visit lasting up to 6 months).
